Full-time, working ECEs may qualify for up to $5,000 per year and up to $10,000 per program through the Early Years Continuing Education Program.* 

*Note that Staff and family child care providers taking advantage of this reimbursement will be required to commit to work in a Nova Scotia regulated child care program for 750 or 1500 hours, depending on the amount reimbursed and the timing of the reimbursement.

If you are a recipient of income assistance, you may qualify for Employment Support Services (ESS).  You may be eligible for full tuition support as well as funding for other expenses related to your education.

Administered by the Nova Scotia department of Labour and Advanced Education, the Skills Development (SD) program provides unemployed, Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) eligible participants, who need to learn additional basic to advanced skills, and development training to help them obtain the skills they need to find work.

Participants requesting support through this program attend training on a full-time basis.

APTEC is the employment and training division of the Native Council of Nova Scotia established to provide human resource development services to the rural, urban, off-reserve Mi’kmaq / Aboriginal Peoples of Nova Scotia. Established as an outreach employment service in 1977, APTEC is now supported partially through the Aboriginal Human Resource Development Strategy (AHRDA) and an employment assistance agreement with Service Canada.

APTEC offers the target group a range of employment and training services with the goal to obtain and maintain long-term sustainable employment. This is completed through assessment, employment counselling, a mutually agreed upon return to the work action plan, and where determined, funding support. Current support programs accessible to the target group consist of, targeted or wage subsidies, job creation partnerships, skills development and the self-employment program. A range of Youth programming is also available which are client-centred programs that respond to individual needs; the matching of post-secondary graduates with career-related work experience and summer work experience initiatives. APTEC also provides programs and assistance to Aboriginal persons with disabilities to obtain and retain employment.

To ensure the target group has current local, regional and provincial information on available opportunities and resources, the APTEC service works diligently to develop and maintain partnerships. Current and potential partners include community agencies, the private sector, human resource sector councils, training institutions and government agencies and departments.

African Canadian Services offers six scholarships to support African Canadians who have graduated high school in Nova Scotia to access post-secondary education. $1,800 per year / $3,600 for a two-year program.

A combination of Loans and Grants, from both the Government of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada.

The amount that students receive is calculated based on need, individually, for every student, so the amount can vary a great deal. The average amount that all applicants in Loans and Grants in 2018-2019 was between $12,000-13,000.
