Board of Directors

In 1970, St. Joseph’s Children’s Centre established the first Atlantic Canadian Program in Early Childhood Education. The program evolved from a three-month course to a ten-month Diploma program. In May 1997, St. Joseph’s College of Early Childhood Education became a separate entity from St. Joseph’s Children’s Centre.

In 2000, in order to ensure that the Diploma was recognized across provincial borders, the program was extended to a two-year course. The Diploma Program is licensed by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education and approved by the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. 

In 2008, St Joseph’s College of Early Childhood Education changed its name to Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education (NSCECE).

NSCECE seeks to build partnerships within the community that enhance and strengthen learning and innovation in the delivery of the ECE program.

NSCC

Nova Scotia Community College, commonly referred to as NSCC, is a community college serving the province of Nova Scotia. The college delivers a diverse range of programs in the schools of Trades and Technology, Health and Human Services, Applied Arts and New Media, Business and Access. The college has 13 campuses located across Nova Scotia and six community learning centres. The three Lab Schools (child care demonstration sites) of NSCECE are located in the metro campuses of NSCC and offer priority placement for children of students, staff and faculty.

Nova Scotia Early Childhood Developmental Intervention

Serving the Halifax Regional Municipality since 1985, the NSECDS is a non-profit Resource and Community Outreach Program for Infants and Young Children with Developmental Delays.

ISANS

Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia is a leading community organization that welcomes immigrants to Nova Scotia. Working in partnership, they offer services and create opportunities to help immigrants to participate fully in Canadian life. ISANS recognizes the key role of immigrants in Canadian society. ISANS works with newcomers to help them build a future in Canada. They provide a wide range of services to immigrants, from refugee resettlement to professional programs, from family counselling to English in the Workplace.

Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

As a College offering early childhood education training, the curriculum standards are created and regulated by this branch of the government.

The Department of Labour and Advanced Education is responsible for delivering effective and efficient regulatory management for the protection of the health and safety of Nova Scotians. Private Career Colleges are licensed by this branch of the government.
